A bit of disappointing news for Surrey followers, with spinner Cameron Steel announcing his immediate retirement at the age of 30 because of injury problems. He became Durham's youngest double-centurion when he made 224 against Leicestershire in 2017 but after moving to the Oval four years later, it was his bowling which came to prominence. Steel was part of the squad which won a hat-trick of Championship titles from 2022 to 2024 but has not played a first-class game since July last year. His final appearance for Surrey was in a One-Day Cup game against Hampshire in August.
